Maternity

Thank you for choosing Jenny Mason Photography to document this special time in your life. My style is to create beautiful images of you with a natural feel. We can achieve different looks with various backdrops and flattering lighting techniques. Your comfort is most important, please be assured that this is my priority during your maternity session. I strive to not only capture beautiful moments for you and your spouse, but also make the experience enjoyable and comfortable. As a woman myself, I understand the strong desire for your portraits to be as flattering as possible during your pregnancy.

What to Wear
Clothing choice is important. I recommend bringing a black exercise type bra, a black cami, or a simple tank top, paired with black yoga type pants. Pants that you wore before you were pregnant are also fun. We can unzip and unbutton them! Denim jeans are a classic choice. If you prefer maternity pants, please wear the kind without the maternity band. Flowing wraps, cropped tops, shrugs, lacy cami’s, and pretty strapless bras are also creative ways to photograph your belly. Button down shirts can be unbuttoned at the bottom to show off your belly (make sure it is ironed). I will also have available some soft fabrics to drap around you, if you wish. If you choose to use the fabric, I recommend a nude strapless bra and underwear (not the maternity kind). As always, your comfort is of utmost importance for your portraits and will determine which clothing pieces are used. Please avoid clothing with stripes, logos, writing, and busy patterns.

Please do not wear anything with elastic on your belly for a few hours before your session. The elastic can leave unflattering markings on your belly. Watches and some other jewelry can have this same effect. Don’t forget about your feet! Tight socks can leave marks too; consider wearing flip-flops to your session.Women should wear their make-up as they normally do. A bit more mascara and lipstick with color will enhance your portrait. Nails should be neat and natural, most women (and spouses!) choose to have their nails neatly manicured just before the session as your hands will be placed on your belly for many of the images. Men should be clean shaven unless they wear a beard or mustache. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum. Watches, drop earrings, charm bracelets, large necklaces, and belts should not be worn.

Your spouse and children are more than welcome to join you for portraits as well. Plan for them to come in jeans and a dark shirt as well as other shirts that color coordinate (but not matchy – matchy) with the clothing items you have chosen for your session.

When in doubt we always recommend you bring everything you think might work! I will take time before your session to review what you have brought and make recommendations on what will photograph best!
