On the road

I am out of the studio until Thursday, March 26th, but my assistant Lara will be in the office Tues – Fri to answer the phone, package orders and return your calls. I had a great opportunity to go to Europe at the last minute and I did it! How spontaneous of me – NOT me, I’m such a planner. Anyway, I’m in Switzerland right now and will be back soon. Maybe I’ll post some pics from my trip. It’s so beautiful here!

A great cause…for an amazing family!

Once in a while in life you come across someone or a family that really makes a lasting impression. Their kindness, generosity, and genuine caring for others makes them stick out from all the rest and you are drawn to them. You may recognize the image below as one of my trademark images. It was taken just after I met a wonderful young mom who had come to me for maternity and newborn portraits of her second child. This young family is one of those that has left an indelible impression on my heart.

I have since then photographed her family and children several times documenting the loving, sweet family that they are. They have been some of my favorite clients from the first time we met. Last October, Amanda was diagnosed with a very agressive form of breast cancer at the young age of 29. Her courage and determination and positive attitude over the last few months are awe inspiring.

Next Saturday, March 7th all of her dedicated friends and family have planned a fundraising event for her which will provide direct help to her family in this time of great need as well as celebrate her fighting spirit and dedication to fighting this awful disease. Please consider coming to the event or making a donation in her honor.

Happy Monday…and 40!

Yeah, I know it’s Wednesday, but this week has flown by. My happy things this week…

1. My birthday. Yes, today is my 40th birthday. I went out to breakfast and got a pedicure. It’s all down hill from here.
2. My quiet house. The kids are all back in school and I am getting some much needed peace and quiet.
3. My wonderful husband and friends who threw me a fabulous 40th surprise birthday dinner last Saturday! I have never been surprised like that, and it was so fun, and so very thougthful. I love having great friends and family. Really, what else does a girl need?

So, in honor of my 40 years, I have come up with 40 things I’d like to do with the next 40 years of my life.

1. Go white water rafting
2. Visit Paris in the springtime
3. Remodel my kitchen
4. Raise my children to be responsible adults who give back to their community
5. Share my happiness with others
6. Lose 40 lbs
7. Run a marathon
8. Climb a mountain
9. See the Great Wall of China
10. Live for at least a month in Tuscany
11. Be a good friend
12. Boogie board
13. Photograph someone famous
14. Have one of my photographs published in a magazine
15. See the Great Barrier Reef
16. Win an award for one of my photographs
17. Have lots of grandchildren
18. Retire young and enjoy it!
19. Own a cabin on a lake
20. Give back
21. Fight for a cause
22. Go on an African Safari
23. See my daughter perform in Carnegie Hall
24. Meet the President of the United States (don’t really care which one)
25. Swim in a lake (a MAJOR fear of mine!)
26. Jump off of a high dive
27. Go on a Disney cruise – it just sounds like so much fun!!!!!
28. Be healthy
29. Finish a scrapbook for each of my children
30. Go see Mount Rushmore – I don’t know why, I’ve just always wanted to see it.
31. Buy a pair of ridiculously expensive jeans that look fabulous on me
32. Make new friends
33. Smile more
34. ALWAYS send thank you notes and birthday cards
35. Learn how to cook really well
36. Be grateful for all of my MANY blessings
37. Keep a journal
38. Research my family history
39. Go snorkling on Grand Cayman Island – or Tahiti would be fine too.
40. Live in the moment each and every day and be happy!!!!!

A is for age:
Holding steady at 39. 40 is coming way to fast!

B is for burger of choice:
In-n-Out double double with no tomatoes for sure.

C is for what kind of car you drive:
GMC Yukon XL – cha ching! But I’m a mom of three, what can I say?

D is for your dog’s name:
Roxy.

E is for essential item you use everyday:
My Blackberry

F is for favorite TV show at the moment:
America’s Got Talent! and I always love a good CSI episode – but I’m not a huge TV watcher.

G is for favorite game:
The Wii Fit I can’t wait to buy! Otherwise, Wii bowling or baseball with my son.

H is for Hometown:
Laguna Niguel, CA – I’ve moved around a lot, but I’ve lived here longer than anywhere else!

I is for instruments you play:
None. Musical talent skipped a generation in my family.

J is for favorite juice:
Lemonade

K is for whose butt you’d like to kick:
No one, I’m not the violent type.

L is for last restaurant you ate at?
Rubys. My son wanted McDonald’s so we compromised.

M is for your favorite Muppet:
I never really liked the Muppets.

N is for Number of Piercings:
Two in each ear – I pierced my second holes myself in a fit of teenage rebellion. I only use one now though.

O is for overnight hospital stays:
3 c-sections

P is for people you were with today:
My hubby and my son. My two girls are away for a whole week! It’s pretty lonely around here.

Q is for what you do with your quiet time:
Do I have any quiet time? Probably read a book or watch a movie with my hubby.

R is for biggest regret:
No regrets. I don’t dwell on the past. I like to think optimistically about the future.

S is for status:
Married to my best friend. 19 years strong!

T is for time you woke up today:
6:00 a.m.

U is for what you consider unique:
Standing up for what you believe in, being passionate about something, and not worrying about what other people think.

V is for vegetables you love:
Asparagus and zucchini

W is for worst habit:
Procrastination…what can I say, I do my best work under pressure!

X is for x-rays you’ve had:
2 that I can remember – not including the dentist. I broke my wrist in 5th grade and broke my little toe a few years ago.

Y is for yummy food you ate today:
Golden Spoon frozen yogurt – I told you I was addicted!

Z is for zodiac sign:
Virgo…always the perfectionist.
